Details and fees
Many people in Calabar only see a nurse when something is already very wrong. So every month, and more often in carnival season, our team packs a table, a blood pressure machine and a cooler of test kits and heads to Marian Market, Watt Market, schools in Calabar South and churches across the city.
Blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and malaria tests are free on those days. Anyone who needs follow-up gets a slip for a half-price visit at the clinic, and our community health worker calls to make sure they came.
I sell crayfish at Watt Market and I can't sit in hospital all day. The nurse checked my pressure right there at the market, told me it was high, and the next morning the doctor saw me in under an hour. The drugs cost less than I feared.
I booked antenatal here for my first baby. The midwives explained every test and its price before they did it. When labour started at 2 am, Matron was already waiting for me.
As a teacher I'm on NHIA, and at Coral Grove the card simply works. No wahala at the desk, no 'that drug is not available' story. And the doctor always remembers to ask about my knees.
Walk in any day, or book ahead so we're ready for you. Not sure what something will cost? Call and ask, and we'll tell you straight.
